A slow Sunday in Teddington

Deer at dawn, a warm bun, the river at noon, and nowhere you need to be.

Teddington does Sundays well. The High Street wakes up slowly, the park belongs to early risers, and the river does what rivers do. Here’s how to spend one without rushing.

Early: into the park

Go in through a Teddington gate while the grass is still wet. The deer are at their most relaxed before the crowds, and Chestnut Avenue is almost empty.

Mid-morning: something warm

Walk back towards the High Street for coffee and a pastry. Take it to go if the weather’s kind.

Noon: down to the river

Follow Ferry Road to the lock and watch the boats for a while, then cross the footbridges and back.

Afternoon: art, or a nap

If there’s a fair at the Landmark Arts Centre, stop in. If not, you’ve earned the sofa.
