Teddington’s back garden happens to be a Royal Park. Bushy is the quieter sibling of Richmond: flatter, less photographed, and better for it. Red and fallow deer graze in loose herds, and Wren’s Chestnut Avenue runs arrow-straight towards the Diana Fountain.
Come in through one of the Teddington gates and you’re among the trees within minutes. Head for the Woodland Gardens if you want somewhere sheltered, with streams, rhododendrons and benches made for doing nothing. The open grassland is for big skies and long walks.
