Walbrook Rowing Club
An open rowing club on the calm, non-tidal Thames above Teddington Lock, for juniors, seniors and masters, beginners welcome.
Walbrook began in 1961 as a rowing club for BP staff, and it has been independent and open to all since the 1990s. It shares a site on Trowlock Island, about half a mile upstream of Teddington Lock, with the Royal Canoe Club and the Skiff Club. Being the lowest club on the weir-controlled Thames, it gets calm water without the tides.
There’s a well-kept fleet of sculling and rowing boats, coaching launches, an ergo and weights gym, and a clubhouse with a balcony over the river. Juniors race at national level, with recent national titles, and the club runs the Teddington Head of the River Race each November. It’s sociable too: Saturday’s early crews come in for coffee and cake.
